Fourth Grade Mr. Albanese, Mrs. Calise, Mr. Carletto, Mrs. Ris
The fourth graders will be rehearsing for our annual Shel Silverstein poetry performance. Students are learning about the poetry of Shel Silverstein in his collections Falling Up, A Light in the Attic, and Where the Sidewalk Ends. They will be inspired as they discover that poetry can be humorous and take many different forms. Students are selecting poems to memorize and adding their own interpretation through dramatization and use of props. We will be focusing on fluency, as well as using the body and intonation to express poetry. We can’t wait to show you our great work! In science we will be studying animal basic needs and adaptations. Through experiments and observations we will be learning about different animals and how they use their environments to meet their basic needs. We will also be learning about their special adaptations, for example, camouflage, feathers, teeth, and claws that help them survive in their environments. As our Writer’s Workshop comes to a close for the year, we will get to know even more about our classmates as we learn to write Memoirs, a hybrid of the Personal Narrative and Expository writing genres. Student choice is vital to keeping students interested in writing. Through mini writer’s craft lessons and an individualized writing process, we will be coming up with focused ideas, plan using a variety of graphic organizers, draft, edit, revise, and publish our writing.
