Resource Program Dr. Kass and Ms. Taite
Dr. Kass Gr. K, 1, 2, and 3
Dr. Kass’s students have busy perfecting their writing skills! We have been working to strengthen our written language and expression by utilizing our creativity to create writing masterpieces in all genres! Newspaper advertisements, journal articles, short stories, poetry, and friendly letters are just some of the many writing formats our aspiring authors are participating in creating. We will continue to examine many other important forms of written communication in the months ahead. We are excited for the upcoming celebrations of “Read Across America Day” as well as Dr. Seuss’s birthday. Throughout the month of March we will be looking at many of the wonderful forms of literature shared with us by the late Dr. Seuss and we will begin a study on adjectives as we dive into a theme unit on “The Lorax” later in the month. Our focus on adjectives and vivid details will help improve our writing and influence our creativity in written communication.
Finally, in mathematics we will continue to explore concepts in numeration, time and measurement, money, and geometry! The students continue to engage in many hands on activities to help support our concept development in mathematics and apply our skills to everyday life. Please continue to study your math facts and read each day at home! Continuous practice helps to strengthen our understanding and build confidence in math and reading! We look forward to the spring, sunshine, continuous growth and achievement! We’ll be soaring this spring!
Ms.
Taite
Gr. 4 and 5
In Resource Room, Grades 4 and 5 are working very hard! The students are reading from the Treasures series while honing their writing skills! In addition, they are learning many new math concepts and becoming more proficient in their math facts. In math, both the 4th and 5th graders are practicing their multiplication/division and are getting better each passing day! The students love using the Smartboard to work out problems for their peers! We will be entering the world of fractions soon. Soon, the students will begin to read Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing in class. They have shown an increase in their wanting to read age appropriate books, and I want to capture the moment to demonstrate that they can get “lost in a book.” In writing, the students have learned the format for pre-writing an essay and will continue to practice becoming better writers. They have strategies for organizing their stories and have been doing a wonderful job! The students are continuing the Orton Gillingham Methodology for spelling and truly love working on their sounds. The Orton Method is a multi-sensory approach to spelling. They have learned many sounds, as well as place value of those sounds. The students also get 2 “challenge words” a week. These are words they cannot sound out (ex. awesome), and they have mastered many words! I am very proud of all of the students!
