SOFTBALL
The Lady Knights have a record of 16-8 going into playoff week. The fine season has earned the team a First Round State Tournament home game and the #8 seed in the tournament. The girls will be facing border rival and #9 seed Dumont at the middle school field at 4pm on Tuesday May 24th. A win will have the team playing again on Thursday in the second round TBD. However, the Lady Knights will have some business to take care of in their final regular season game on Wednesday at Leonia where the girls look to avenge an early season loss to the Lions. A week of big games is ahead and we wish the Lady Knights Good Luck! GOLF
On Thursday (5/19), the golf team competed in the Dan Luciano-Odell Nassar Group 1-2 County Championships at Darlington GC. Heavy rains on Tuesday and Wednesday made for tougher than usual conditions. New Milford finished with an 18-hole team score of 538. Senior Angelo Sahlaras led the Knights with a 119 and Sophomore John Bernard finished 6-strokes behind with a 125.
With a mostly sophomore and freshman squad, the 2011 season was a rebuilding year. Sophomores John Bernard (57.1), Victoria Rossi (69.5), and Leigha Ortenzio cut more than 7-strokes off their 2010 9-hole league scoring averages. Bernard shot a career-low 52 on 5 five occasions this season and will look to break into the 40s next season. The Knights (0-20) will return 10 of 11 golfers.
BOYS TENNIS
The New Milford Knights Tennis team ended its season this past week with a hard fought loss against Waldwick High School. During the last two weeks of the tennis season the Knights valiantly lost to many league opponents. The success of this season should not be judged by solely looking at the win-loss column. The Knights team fought hard and accrued lots of experience this season. The players learned a lot about what it takes to win while building character and team cohesiveness. Each and every Knight improved their tennis game top to bottom. I am extremely proud of our team's growth this season and look forward to next year.
