The principle role of the school nurse is to support student learning by promoting student and staff health and safety. The nurse accomplishes this through performing annual screenings, reviewing all immunization records, caring for the sick and injured, and administering medications. She also conducts in-service education for staff, teaches health education as needed, and is a health education resource person. The nurse works with the Child Study Team, the 504 Team and collaborates with other health professionals.
All students must have written permission from the MD and parent in order to receive any medication. All medications must be kept in the nurse's office. This includes over the counter medications and prescription medications. The only exceptions are for medications taken for life threatening emergencies (asthma inhalers and Epi-Pens).
All students new to New Milford Schools must complete the registration requirements. If your child has had a physical, please forward it to me with any updated immunizations. This will help keep me informed of any health concerns. If you child is an athlete, a sports physical must be completed yearly. A health update must be completed by the parents every season.
Medication forms, physical forms and treatment forms are attached here for your convenience. There are also some helpful links regarding teen health. Please do not hesitate to contact me for any questions or concerns that you may have.
