  •  I hope that you are feeling it....that lovely crisp air that signals we are back, and we are ready to get down to the work of being first graders.   In September we worked on and completed pattern books, and read them to each other.  In Reader's Workshop we learned about building stamina by reading for longer and longer periods of time as well as reading the same book 4 and 5 times by keeping tally marks on a post it.  We are learning that the more often we read a book, the smoother our reading will become.  We read side to side on a yoga mat, and take turns; we read back to back, and once a week, we get to be the teacher, and read to our reading circle.   In math we are starting unit 2, all about strategies for solving addition problems.  You can get a better idea of all we will be covering by reading the Family Letter inside the Math Homelinks book, which will stay home for the whole year.

We are busy with so many academic activities this month, but we are looking forward to more meditation, two new yoga positions, and more fun makerspace.  If you have any beads or pretty yarn that you don't need, we love craft donations.   We are also looking forward to Halloween and seeing one another's costumes.

We will be having a celebration of writing in the early part of November so that you can listen to us read our personal narratives.  Using our photo collage, we will remember small moments in our lives that will make for some good stories.   Happy Autumn!
