In the United States alone, major depression, substance dependency, family issues and other maladaptive patterns of development will affect 1 in 25 children nation wide.  The peak age of these dysfunctional issues correlates with puberty and the adolescents overall sense of self.  The emotional stage occurs between the ages of thirteen and fourteen years old.

Just when the adolescent begins high school his/her life appears to spiral out of control.  It is critical for parents, school districts and medical professionals to be knowledgeable of factors which may place  then in a higher at risk category.  Family history and biology can create a predisposition for poor impulse control, stress management and high risk behaviors.  These factors may make an individual susceptible for depression and self destructive behaviors.

New Milford’s Student Assistance Program can help you and your child address these issues in a safe ad therapeutic manner!
