Mrs. Lucia Danna

Lucia Danna received her B.A. in Psychology and Elementary Education from William Paterson University and has been teaching in New Milford for more than 20 years.  Mrs. Danna returned to teaching after the birth of her third daughter when she was inspired by the astronaut Christa McAuliffe, who died in the challenger explosion. McAuliffe, a teacher herself, said, “I touch the future. I teach.” In the years following, Mrs. Danna taught children ranging in age from nursery school to eighth grade, and has served as a mentor to many novice teachers. At one point she also taught tap and classical ballet.

At Berkley Street Elementary School, Mrs. Danna is the head of the Character Education Committee, which is a program that each month recognizes students who have exemplified positive characteristics. Mrs. Danna believes that educators do not just teach core subjects, but also teach students how to be active and contributing members of society. Through her teaching of all ages, Mrs. Danna has truly touched the future.
