Ms. Mary Sullivan

              Mary Sullivan received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Assumption College, her teaching credentials from Felician College, and a Master of Arts degree in School Counseling from Jersey City University. Ms. Sullivan began her teaching career in New Milford as a student teacher, then taught 3rd grade for ten years, and is currently the Elementary School Counselor at Berkley Street School.

          In addition to conducting classroom lessons; the school counselor consults with parents, teachers, and other professionals; and coordinates student services in the school. This counseling and guidance program provides elementary students with assistance in: understanding self and developing a positive self-image, showing respect for the feelings of others, understanding the decision-making process, maintaining effective relationships with peers and adults, developing effective study skills, being prepared to make the transition to the middle school.

          Ms. Sullivan is also the direct contact for the Intervention and Referral Services Committee (I&RS). The I&RS Committee consists of the principal, school counselor, a Child Study Team member, a classroom teacher, and the referring teacher. The I&RS committee has been established as a school-based problem solving group that converses monthly for the purpose of assisting teachers with strategies for working with students who are experiencing difficulties in areas such areas as academics, social, emotional, or health. The purpose of I&RS is to develop an assistance plan especially designed to assist your child within the regular education setting.
