Degrees and Certifications:
Ms. Favia has been a teacher in New Milford since 2014. This will be her third year teaching the IBC classroom. She earned her Degree in Elementary Education and Special Education at Rider University. Ms. Favia is currently going back to school for her masters degree. During the fall season Ms. Favia coaches the junior varsity cheerleading team at the New Milford High School.
As an IBC teacher, Ms. Favia works with her students on daily living skills, life skills, academics, as well as social skills. In the IBC program, we teach through discrete trials. Programs are set up on ReThink for parents to view the programs their students are working on. In the area of daily living skills, we teach students how to tie their shoes, wash their hands, brush their teeth, unpack/pack their backpacks, and setting up and cleaning up their snack and lunch. Some of the life skills we work on in the K-1 IBC class are; sorting utensils, setting a table, sweeping, swiffering, and cleaning a table. Academics are individually taught based on the student's academic strengths and weaknesses. Social skills are taught throughout the day and most importantly during specials where the students are integrated with their peers. As part of our curriculum, we also go on community outings trips where we are taking skills we work on in class and applying them when we are out in the community.
