Mrs. Kathleen Schlatter

Kathleen Schlatter received a Bachelor’s Degree from Florida Atlantic University in Elementary Education. The love of watching children learn how to read, motivated her to obtain a Master’s Degree in Reading from William Paterson University and she has taken additional courses (Masters plus 30) to enhance her knowledge of all aspects of teaching.  Mrs. Schlatter has been teaching in New Milford since 1996. Mrs. Schlatter believes strongly that children learn best when they have an open mind ready for learning. A strong advocate for hands-on learning, differentiated instruction, small group instruction, and cooperative learning, she strives to build a sturdy foundation for children so that they have a bright and successful year in first grade.

Mrs. Schlatter involves her students in several independent and cooperative learning activities. She strives to set an environment where children feel comfortable, safe, and excited to learn.  Her professional interests focus on enhancing the First grade curriculum by creating meaningful lessons where students can perform to their highest potential. In addition to teaching 1st Grade, Mrs. Schlatter provides an extra help program twice a week. Mrs. Schlatter was also the proud recipient of Teacher of the Year in 2002-2003. Above all, Mrs. Schlatter believes that children should be challenged and encouraged to try their best and develop their own passion for learning.

“A good teacher can inspire hope, ignite the imagination, and instill a love of learning.”
