Mrs. Kathleen Schlatter

Kathleen Schlatter received a Bachelor’s Degree from Florida Atlantic University in Elementary Education. The love of watching children learn how to read, motivated her to obtain a Master’s Degree in Reading from William Paterson University and she has taken additional courses (Masters plus 30) to enhance her knowledge of all aspects of teaching.  Mrs. Schlatter has been teaching for 21 years, not only in First Grade, but in the New Milford District as well! Mrs. Schlatter believes strongly that children learn best when they have an open mind ready for learning. A strong advocate for hands-on learning, differentiated instruction, small group instruction, and cooperative learning, she strives to build a sturdy foundation for children so that they have a bright and successful year in First Grade. Mrs. Schlatter involves her students in several independent and cooperative learning activities. She strives to set an environment where children feel comfortable, safe, and excited to learn.  Her professional interests focus on enhancing the First grade curriculum by creatingmeaningful lessons where students can perform to their highest potential. In addition to teaching 1 st Grade, Mrs. Schlatter teaches the after school RTI Program for 1 st Grade and provides an extra help program twice a week. Mrs. Schlatter was also the proud recipient of Teacher of the Year in 2002-2003. Above all Mrs. Schlatter believes that children should be challenged and encouraged to try their best and develop their own passion forlearning.

“A good teacher can inspire hope, ignite the imagination, and instill a love of learning.”
