Dear B.F. Gibbs Families,

I am so proud to be the Principal at B.F. Gibbs Elementary school! B.F. Gibbs is a dynamic and inclusive learning community with over 450 students in grades Pre-K through five.

Our educators believe that children learn best by doing. Our classes are active and hands-on. Children are encouraged to question, reflect, revise, and think critically each day. We believe that children need space to take risks, challenge themselves and to learn from mistakes and failures. To borrow from Brene Brown, “There is absolutely no innovation without failure.” An environment that truly supports self-efficacy appreciates the courage it takes to try new ways, to celebrate success, to admit failure, to be receptive and open to feedback, and to try again.

Our collective goal is for each student to leave B.F. Gibbs with a strong academic foundation, a curious mind, a persevering spirit, and a compassionate heart.

My time in New Milford began in the fall of 2019 as the Elementary Vice Principal. Prior to working in New Milford, I served as Assistant Principal at P.S. 165 in New York City. Prior to that, I was the literacy coach and middle school ELA teacher at M.S. 258, The Community Action School. I live in Bergen County with my husband, Tom, and our two amazing boys, Tyler (2nd grade) and Austin (Kindergarten). They are my whole world.

Every child in this school is someone’s whole world. Parents, you send us your children and expect us to do our very best for them. My commitment to you is that I will always honor and respect this tremendous responsibility.

It has always been my policy to have an open door for all students, staff and parents. I invite you to contact me anytime with questions, concerns or comments.

I look forward to a fantastic school year!

With Gratitude,

Jessica Torre
