Degrees and Certifications:
Mr. Mathew Perkins
I currently teach 8th grade math and Algebra. I received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics and a Master's of Education Degree from Montclair State University. After that, I attended Seton Hall to pursue a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership. Before teaching at David E. Owens, I taught Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, and Trigonometry at the high school level.
My philosophy of education is that all children can learn, given that a teacher sets high expectations for students while creating a safe environment for them to discover different concepts/skills. It is my desire to create an environment that allows children to express their thoughts, opinions, and emotions where they can reach their full potential.
Grading Procedure: There are 3 categories: 1. Assessments, which includes tests, quizzes, and projects. 2. homework, and 3. participation. Assessments make up 70% of the grade while homework is 10% and participation are worth 20%.
